The poem Echo depicts the pain and sadness of a widow mourning her lover. In this poem, the widow is yearning for her lover to come back to her through any means necessary, such as visiting her in her dreams. She attempts to recollect the past memories of love and hope from her loved one with little avail. The visions of her loved one within her dreams serve as her type of paradise where she can feel an ounce of happiness through the pain and despair controlling her. While the speaker lives her life in depression, her only thoughts and aspirations involve seeing her lover one more time. Despite the amount of sunshine on a beautiful day, the day is filled with disappointment because her lover cannot be by her side. Thus, the speaker prefers the night where the opportunity to see her lover once more becomes available. As time passes, the widow s yearning for her lover increases substantially. Furthermore, the opportunity to see her lover once again in her dreams is the only hope that r emains in order to keep her alive.
